Haven Sporthorses (HsH) is owned and operated by Julia Bartel, a college graduate from Seton Hill University (B.S in Biology/Pre-Vet and a Minor in Chemistry, Graduate School at Delaware State, Biological Sciences 2007-2010, and Masters of Science in Microbiology at University of Florida 2020-2022). During undergraduate studies Julia was captain of the IHSA Equestrian Team- Open Division (1997-2001). HsH was established in 2001, Davidsonville, Maryland with the purchase of the Holsteiner cross
stallion, Lordfurst. A lot of interests began in 2001 with the importance of bloodlines and breeding Olympic quality jumpers and dressage horses. Julia
Bartel has been involved with horses for
over 40 years. Background includes OTTB training, on the track
training, stallion approvals, foal and mare inspections with several
breed registries, exporting and importing horses, consultation on breeding, training dressage, and hunter/jumper
disciplines. HsH main focus are
the bloodlines of today's sporthorses for top of the sport jumpers and dressage.
Julia Bartel trains all her horses from foals and they are started
correctly with a nice foundation in dressage. The foals and young horses are trained via seat and
leg control in the first year under saddle with little to no contact to allow natural development, balance and softness.
Outside
training of other horses are available but space is limited. Training of
horses and people offsite are offered on a case by case basis. Coaching
at local shows is also available upon request. HsH has a personal farrier, John Haven. John Haven also trains HsH horses and has been working with horses for over 20 years and a natural. John decided to become a farrier where he graduated from the extensive 24 week class at Mitch Taylor's Kentucky Horse Shoeing School located at Mt.Eden, KY. All HsH horses are well cared for with current vaccines, dental, farrier, worming, and grooming to maintain optimal health. All HsH horses are fed top quality grain and hay with 24-7 turn out. All horses are papered and or passported in Julia Bartel's name and all foals bred by HsH come with lifetime USEF and USDF numbers. HsH breeds on a small scale but provides the top of the crop quality in the USA for the very discriminating buyer who focus on the World Rankings and who's who is the warmblood sport world. We also offer consultation on breeding and training.
